The 10th Court of Appeals comes to SHSU

by Stevie Hall*

The 10th Court of Appeals will be hearing cases on the SHSU campus in the Criminal Justice Center’s Hazel B. Kerper Courtroom on Tuesday, April 2. The first case will begin at 10:00 am, followed by three more cases at 11:00 am, 1:00 pm, and 2:00 pm, each of which are open to the public.

This is the third year the appeals court has been to the Sam Houston campus, and this year all of the cases are civil. Two of the cases originated in Walker County and the other two in Madison County. One case even involves a former “Airkat Bearkat” of SHSU. Unlike usual appellate court proceedings (although these cases are the real deal), the attorneys will turn to the audience and directly explain some facts of the case. With a large amount of the student population having interest in the criminal justice system and law school, this will be a unique opportunity for students and the public.
